County Provides Winter Weather Update; Offices Closed Monday, Board Meeting Rescheduled

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Emergency Management continues monitoring the impacts of ongoing winter weather across the area.

Hazardous road conditions persist, and the National Weather Service forecasts bitterly cold temperatures, with overnight lows expected to fall into the single digits. These conditions increase the risk of black ice and dangerous travel.

County Operations

Out of an abundance of caution, the following changes apply to County operations:

  • All Cumberland County offices and facilities, including the Court system, will be closed Monday, Feb. 2.

  • The Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. in Room 118 of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse.

  • Cumberland County Schools will operate on an asynchronous remote learning schedule Monday, Feb. 2. School buildings and district offices will be closed.

Sheltering & Warming Centers

Community partner shelters remain open and available for individuals in need of a safe, warm place during extreme cold. Emergency transportation to shelters remains suspended due to hazardous road conditions.

White Flag Shelters

The Salvation Army of the Sandhills

  • Address: 245 Alexander St., Fayetteville

  • More Information: Meals provided. The Salvation Army shelter is open to individuals and families and maintains a safe environment for all guests. Security screenings are conducted upon check-in, including verification against the sex offender registry, a breathalyzer test, and metal detection screening.

Cornerstone Christian Empowerment Center

  • Address: 111 N. Bragg Blvd., Spring Lake Shuttle service suspended due to road conditions.

  • Dinner and breakfast provided.

Warming Center

The Salvation Army of the Sandhills

  • Address: 245 Alexander St., Fayetteville

  • Hours: 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m.

  • More Information: When activated as a warming center, meals will be provided.

Public Safety Reminders

Residents are urged to:

  • Stay off roadways whenever possible.

  • If traveling, leave plenty of time to reach the destination and be alert for black ice.

  • Check on neighbors, older adults, and those without reliable heat.

  • Bring pets indoors during extreme cold.

  • Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

  • For non-emergencies, call 910-600-7299.

  • NC 211 can help connect residents to sheltering, food, and emergency resources by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting nc211.org.

County Emergency Services will continue monitoring conditions and coordinating with regional and state partners.
